Chapter 19

The sun will be turned into darkness

and the moon into blood before the great and awesome day of the Lord comes    (Joel 2:31)

the powers of the heavens will be shaken (Matthew 24:29)

I saw the beast and the kings of the earth and their armies assembled to make war against Him who sat on the horse    (Revelation 19:19)

The beast and his armies:  "...whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming: even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, and with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved."    (2 Thess 2: 8-10)

The Coming of Christ

11 And I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse, and He who sat on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and wages war.

12 His eyes are a flame of fire, and on His head are many diadems; and He has a name written on Him which no one knows except Himself.

13 He is clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God.

14 And the armies which are in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, were following Him on white horses.

15 From His mouth comes a sharp sword, so that with it He may strike down the nations, and He will rule them with a rod of iron; and He treads the wine press of the fierce wrath of God, the Almighty.

16 And on His robe and on His thigh He has a name written, "KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS."

17 Then I saw an angel standing in the sun, and he cried out with a loud voice, saying to all the birds which fly in midheaven, "Come, assemble for the great supper of God,

18 so that you may eat the flesh of kings and the flesh of commanders and the flesh of mighty men and the flesh of horses and of those who sit on them and the flesh of all men, both free men and slaves, and small and great."

19 And I saw the beast and the kings of the earth and their armies assembled to make war against Him who sat on the horse and against His army.

Doom of the Beast and False Prophet

20 And the beast was seized, and with him the false prophet who performed the signs in his presence, by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image; these two were thrown alive into the lake of fire which burns with brimstone.

21 And the rest were killed with the sword which came from the mouth of Him who sat on the horse, and all the birds were filled with their flesh.

The sun will be turned into darkness and the moon into blood before the great and awesome day of the Lord comes. (Joel 2:31)

Behold, the day of the Lord is coming ... the stars of heaven and their constellations will not flash forth their light; the sun will be dark when it rises and the moon will not shed its light.  Thus I will punish the world for its evil and the wicked for their iniquity.  (Isaiah 13: 9-11)

Come, tread, for the wine press is full; the vats overflow for their wickedness is great.  Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision!  For the day of the Lord is near in the valley of decision.  The sun and moon grow dark and the stars lose their brightness.  The Lord roars from Zion and utters His voice from Jerusalem, and the heavens and the earth tremble.  (Joel 3: 13-16)

The earth is broken asunder, the earth is split through, the earth is shaken violently.  The earth reels to and fro like a drunkard and it totters like a shack, for its transgression is heavy upon it. ... The Lord will punish the host of heaven on high, and the kings of the earth on earth. ... Then the moon will be abashed and the sun ashamed, for the Lord of hosts will reign on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem, and His glory will be before His elders.  (Isaiah 24: 19-21,23)

In that day there will be no light; the luminaries will dwindle.  For it will be a unique day which is known to the Lord, neither day nor night ... and in that day living waters will flow out of Jerusalem.  (Zechariah 14: 6-8)

Jesus Christ:  "The sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; and the stars will fall from the sky, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.  And then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky with power and great glory."  (Matthew 24: 29,30)
